YOU WILL ALWAYS COUNT ON US – IGP ASSURES NEW CHINESE AMBASSADOR

The newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Wang Qink on Wednesday January 18 2023 paid a courtesy-call on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu in his office at Police Headquarters in Freetown.

The visit of the Chinese ambassador came about in just ten (10) days after his arrival on the shores of Sierra Leone. The ambassador explicitly expressed his desire to work with the government and the people of Sierra Leone, stating that he is deeply impressed with the Sierra Leone – China bilateral friendship which is based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

The Ambassador expressed his appreciation for meeting the IGP and sincerely appreciated the support of the IGP towards the Chinese community in Sierra Leone. He disclosed that there are about two thousand (2000) Chinese citizens inhabiting in Sierra Leone and that he would request the protection of this people by the IGP and the entire SLP. He also pledged to provide the necessary support within his limit and power to the SLP.

“We have the obligation as a security and law enforcement institution to protect the diplomatic community. On behalf of the SLP, I pledge that you shall always count on us for any assistance when required”. These were the exact words of the IGP while responding to the new Chinese ambassador.

Mr. William Fayia Sellu blissfully welcomed the Chinese ambassador and expressed his belief and respect for China as a nation that has provided huge support to Sierra Leone. He anticipated a continued cooperation and collaboration between Sierra Leone and china and he promised to inform the new ambassador about subsequent cases of any nature that may involve a Chinese citizen.
