“You have demonstrated more interest in security” IGP Sellu tells Mile 13 Community Stakeholders
On Monday 1st, January, 2024, during the unveiling of the ultra modern police post at Mike 13, the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, (IGP) – Mr. William Fayia Sellu told stakeholders that they have demonstrated more interest in security.
Addressing the gathering in the epoch making ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer disclosed that the Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh (who is Chairman of the Police Council) and himself were planning on constructing a police post between the Adonkia Division and Kent.
The construction of the ”Mile 13 community Police Post” he said, has helped to close the gap in their operations.
The Post, he said, came with its full package including personnel, patrol vehicle and motor bikes.
The construction of the Post, the Police Chief added, was the first step, which he stated was perfect and noting that the second would be working with the Police in a collaborative effort, otherwise their dream of having security will not come to fruition.
“Most of our successes come as a result of the intelligence we get from the public” he said, urging them to always inform the Police of any suspicious activity within their communities.
“You have given us a structure and we have given you personnel, we expect additional contributions from you; there will come a time when community safety volunteers will be needed to join police night patrols. That is what we call community policing” said IGP Sellu.
He called on other communities to follow suit, stating that as an institution they prioritise their little resources but would come in to augment self help police projects.
Chairman of the ceremony, Sheik Deen Turay in his opening remark underscored the need for security, stating that nothing will move forward without the Police.
The presence of the Police, Chairman Turay said, guarantees safety, thus the Post is an assurance of safety at the Mile 13 community and its environs.
He also called on the community to aid the successful operations of the Police by helping to provide reliable intelligence.
The Regional Commander for Freetown West – Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Sylvester Momoh N. Koroma disclosed that the Post had been allocated 22 personnel, which include Operational Support Division (OSD), Family Support Unit (FSU), and other units, which make the full component of police personnel in the Post.
Other speakers included, Hon. Ibrahim Kabba, Mr. Ansumana Idriss who gave a synopsis of how the police post was built.
Climaxing of the ceremony was the pouring of libation, cutting of the tape and the inspection of the building for effective operations.
