Creating a link with a collaborative synergy between the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) for capacity building and professionalism, the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the United States of America, His Excellency Sidique Aboubakarr Wai, in a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, (IGP) vowed his determination to support the Sierra Leone Police with some equipment to enhance professional policing.
According to HE Sidique Wai, his visit was to get firsthand information and to interact with the IGP and his management team for a very frank discussion to enhance support for the SLP.
Dr Sovula he said is not just an IGP with a reputation limited to national level but has attracted international attention and recognition.
“One would want to come and get the feel” said Ambassador Wai.
He continued that he was therefore at the police headquarters to see the IGP, his management team and men and women in uniform to have an opportunity to learn more, so that when he goes to New York, he would be in a better position to talk to his friends about help for the SLP.
He therefore called on the police management and the rank and file to support the leadership of Dr. Ambrose Michael Sovula.
In his contributions, the IGP stated that the engagement was important and significant as it aimed at capacity building and professional policing service for the SLP with a well coordinating link with the NYPD.
The visit of the Ambassador he said was timely, referencing President Bio’s desire for human capital development in all sectors including the security.
“We are currently on a transformative drive and what we need now from our partners is training, training and training to enable us meet modern trend of policing” said Dr. Sovula.
SLP he added would have to prepare a concept paper that would determine the required training needs to match with contemporary policing.
He concluded by expressing optimism that the engagement, would yield fruit and the SLP is always ready to cooperate with the NYPD.
In addition to the IGP’s statement, AIG Memunatu Konteh Jalloh in her vote of thanks passionately appealed to Ambassador Sidique Aboubakarr Wai for distinct uniforms and other regalia for the SLP.
The IGP was quick to that prior to the appointment of HE Sidique Aboubakarr Wai as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the US; HE Wai was a Policy adviser to the NYPD and the initiator for the use of “Body Camera” which has become a world class crime fighting tool.
