IGP SELLU UNVEILS KITS FOR SLP FC

On Friday 29th December, 2023, the Inspector General of Police Mr. William Fayia Sellu unveils two full sets of brand new football kits for the Sierra Leone Police Male Football team. The short but well attended unveiling ceremony took place in the Conference Room at Police Headquarters, George Street, Freetown. The kits were bought in preparation for the Team’s participation in the Western Area Football Association (WAFA) Division One (1) League. The kits include jerseys, boots, hoses, balls, training bibs and cones.

During the ceremony, the IGP appreciated the players for choosing to play for the SLP FC as they could have as well played for other teams in the league. IGP Sellu pointed out that he believed one of the constraints the team had been facing was improper means of transportation to travel long distances to honour fixtures.

“It’s somehow disheartening to see players travel long distance on trucks to go and play football”, noted the IGP.

The IGP gave the team Twenty Thousand New Leones (NLe20,000) cash as he promised to purchase a Mini-Bus for them between now and March 2024. He continued that he wants to be a game-changer in football within the SLP. “In addition to what my wife is doing for the female team, I will be seriously engaged with the male team as we progress to the Premier League”, motivated IGP Sellu as he unveiled the items.

Before the items were unveiled, the Secretary General of the SLP Sports Committee – ASP Daniel Koroma explained briefly the history of the team, noting that the team had produced players who played for the national team – Leone Stars.
Presenting the current players to the IGP, Mr. Koroma noted that in the midst of all the players and coaches in the team, only four are police officers.
It is worthy to note that the current crop of players are contracted with the SLP for two seasons.
