EU PRESENTS DIGITAL INTELLIGENCE GATHERING TRAINING PACKAGE TO THE IGP

After previous consultations between the Director of the Integrated Intelligence Services of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Mr. Thomas Mustapha Lahai (AIG) and the European Union (EU), today, Tuesday October 11, 2022 at Police Headquarters, George Street in Freetown, the EU Regional Security Officer to West Africa, Mr. Mario Towre and team presented a training package to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, for the training of Police Personnel in digital intelligence gathering. 

While presenting the package, Mr. Towre said; “in accordance with our discussion one month ago, we have concluded preparations for the training of SLP personnel in digital intelligence gathering, in order to enable the SLP move along with the digital trend of time. We have seen how online information could manipulate violence and we therefore have the pleasure to help you in building the capacity of your personnel in modern communications, especially social media. This is to enable the SLP equip enough to counter online security threats.

While responding, the IGP on behalf of the SLP appreciated the offer and thanked the EU team for what he referred to as; ‘an opportunity that comes at the right time’ especially now that social media is being abused by people, for their selfish gains. He therefore pledged to utilize personnel and the knowledge that would be gained from the training, for the betterment of the SLP and the nation at large.

While concluding, the Director of the Integrated Intelligence Services of the SLP, Mr. Thomas Mustapha Lahai (AIG), discloses that Wednesday October 12, 2022, has been slated to mark the commencement of the digital Intelligence gathering training at the Communications Building, at Kingtom, in Freetown.
