As part of his nationwide tour to engage communities on the transition of the Sierra Leone Police from a Force to a Police Service, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu made a significant stop at Masingbi Police Station on Friday, March 28, 2025. This visit followed his engagements in Makeni and Magburaka Divisions and came as he and his entourage were en route to Kono.
During his address to stakeholders and police personnel in Masingbi, IGP Sellu expressed gratitude to the stakeholders and officers of Magburaka Division for their dedication and service. He acknowledged the growing demand from the public, including the Paramount Chief and other local authorities, to enhance policing accessibility in the region. Given the vastness of Magburaka Division, which comprises 14 chiefdoms, and the considerable distances between Magburaka, Masingbi, and Motema Division, he announced a strategic decision to divide Magburaka Division, thereby creating a new division headquartered in Masingbi.
The Inspector General emphasized that this move aligns with efforts to decentralize policing and improve service delivery. He urged the community to continue supporting the Sierra Leone Police during the transition process and the establishment of the new Masingbi Division. Additionally, he called on stakeholders to allocate more land for the construction of essential police infrastructure, including additional buildings and living quarters for personnel.
In response, Mr. Tariq Sadique, Chairman of Constituency 054 in Tonkolili District, warmly welcomed the IGP and thanked him for the visit. He highlighted some of the successes and challenges faced by the community and commended the personnel of Masingbi Police Station for their commitment. He described the creation of a new police division as a positive development and assured the IGP of the community’s unwavering support for the Sierra Leone Police in the ongoing transition process.
ASP Momoh Dumbuya, Officer Commanding (O/C) Masingbi Police Station, led the IGP on an inspection of the station’s facilities, including vast land areas and accommodations provided by the Chiefdom authorities.
The establishment of Masingbi Division marks a significant step in strengthening law enforcement services in the region, reinforcing the commitment of the Sierra Leone Police to its transformation from a Force to a Service.
