Spanish Surgical Doctors Pays Courtesy Visit to IGP Sellu Ahead of Free Medical Campaign

Kingtom, 17 November 2025 — The Surgeons-In-Action Foundation, a team of Spanish medical specialists, has paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr William Fayia Sellu, as they commence their tenth medical mission at the Kingtom Police Hospital.

Introducing the delegation, the Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dr John Mumuneh Konteh, outlined the purpose of the visit, noting that the team is in Sierra Leone to conduct free surgical procedures for a wide range of conditions requiring operative care.

Dr Konteh further informed the IGP that the Foundation has awarded a scholarship to one of the hospital’s staff, Mr David Fanday, to study medicine in Kampala, Uganda — a gesture he described as a testament to the organisation’s long-term commitment to strengthening medical capacity within the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).

Speaking on behalf of the visiting team, the mission lead, Dr Daniel Pastor, expressed gratitude to the IGP and the entire SLP for the warm hospitality consistently shown to the team over the years. He also announced that an additional group of surgeons from Spain is scheduled to arrive in January 2026 to continue the series of free surgical operations.

Welcoming the delegation, IGP William Fayia Sellu confirmed that this marks the tenth time he has hosted Spanish surgeons under the Foundation’s humanitarian initiative. He commended the team for their “invaluable contribution” to the Police Hospital, noting that their repeated missions and donations of modern medical equipment have significantly enhanced the hospital’s services.

“The impact of your work is far-reaching,” the IGP stated. “This year, we are even receiving patients from neighbouring countries who have travelled to Sierra Leone specifically to benefit from your free surgical operations.”

The IGP also applauded the team’s professionalism, highlighting that the free surgical campaigns have consistently received positive feedback from beneficiaries. He presented Dr Pastor with a certificate from the Medical and Dental Association authorising the team to legally practise during their mission, in accordance with Sierra Leone’s medical regulations.

The visit concluded with group photographs, with the Spanish doctors reaffirming their continued commitment to supporting the Sierra Leone Police and advancing healthcare delivery in the country.
