The newly constructed ultra-modern Aberdeen Divisional Headquarters was officially unveiled on Friday, 14th November 2025, with high-level government officials praising the transformative leadership of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu.
The commissioning ceremony, attended by Honourable Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd AIG Morie Lengor Esq, marked a significant milestone in the ongoing modernization of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).
Vice President Juldeh Jalloh—who also serves as Chairman of the Police Council—commended IGP Sellu for his progressive leadership style, describing it as “transformative, pragmatic, and aligned with the government’s vision for a more capable, people-focused police force.”
“IGP Sellu’s kind of leadership is exactly what we want,” the Vice President stated. “Leadership driven by progress, reform, and the effective delivery of quality policing services.”
He further asserted that the current administration has invested more in strengthening the SLP than any previous government, citing improvements in both institutional capacity and officers’ welfare. These reforms, he said, are part of a deliberate effort to build a modern, professional, and community-focused police service. Promotions within the SLP, he added, will continue to be based on established standards, including honesty, bravery, commitment, respect for leadership, and social intelligence.
Delivering his statement, Internal Affairs Minister Rtd AIG Morie Lengor praised IGP Sellu’s vision, noting that his developmental approach has set an unprecedented benchmark in the Force.
“If I had had the opportunity to serve as IGP, I would have done exactly what Mr. William Fayia Sellu is doing,” he remarked.
The newly unveiled Aberdeen Divisional Headquarters features modern facilities including insurance coverage, disability-friendly access, spacious offices, and a conducive working environment tailored to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.
The ceremony also featured a welcome address by the Regional Police Commander, Freetown West, AIG Sylvester M. N. Koroma, while the vote of thanks was delivered by the Local Unit Commander, CSP Zainab Mbalu Gbla. A guided tour of the facility and a vibrant display of traditional dance brought the event to a close.
