Freetown, Sierra Leone – 5 June 2025 — The Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, has paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Baisnab Charan Pradhan, the High Commissioner of India to Sierra Leone, as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic relations and enhance police training and development initiatives.

During the meeting, IGP Sellu expressed his sincere appreciation for India’s longstanding support to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), particularly in the areas of capacity building. He highlighted various successful initiatives, including computer, cybercrime, and forensic training programmes conducted at Sky Vision Training College, which have significantly strengthened the capabilities of the SLP.

“The Sierra Leone Police have greatly benefited from these training programmes, which are crucial in addressing the evolving landscape of crime,” said IGP Sellu. He stressed the need for continued investment in skill development, particularly in cyber and forensic domains, to ensure officers are well-equipped to tackle emerging security challenges.

He further emphasised the SLP’s ongoing digital transformation strategy, expressing hope for continued and expanded training opportunities. “We look forward to long-term cooperation with India, which has played an instrumental role in our progress,” he added.

High Commissioner Pradhan welcomed the discussions and reaffirmed the Indian government’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s law enforcement institutions. He underscored the global significance of security and pledged to facilitate more advanced training opportunities for the SLP, including senior officer courses at the Indian Police Academy.

“The Indian government remains committed to expanding training programmes for the Sierra Leone Police,” said High Commissioner Pradhan. “We will promptly communicate any upcoming opportunities to the IGP.”
