CHINESE EMBASSY DONATES MEDIA EQUIPMENT TO SLP

Freetown, 24 July 2025 – The Media and Public Relations Department of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has received a significant boost following the donation of modern media equipment from the Chinese Embassy in Freetown.

The donation was made during a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, Mr William Fayia Sellu, by a delegation from the Chinese Embassy led by Minister Counsellor Mr Zhang Diabin. The items, which include high-end cameras, computers and accessories, are part of a broader initiative to support the digital transformation of the SLP’s media operations.

Talking to the Inspector General, Mr Diabin highlighted that the equipment forms part of a previous commitment to enhance the SLP’s communication capacity.

“The computers and accompanying gadgets will greatly improve the efficiency and output of your media Department,” Mr Diabin noted. “We are also working on arrangements to train 20 officials at one of our prestigious institutions in China.”

In his response, IGP Sellu expressed appreciation for the continued support from the Chinese government, recalling his own participation in a similar training programme in China in 2013.

He also updated the delegation on the SLP’s latest initiatives in crime prevention, including the installation of CCTV cameras in strategic locations across Freetown and Bo. “We plan to extend this to Makeni, Kenema and Port Loko in alignment with the government’s ‘Safe Salone’ programme and the President’s ‘Big Five Game Changers’ agenda,” he said.

The visit concluded with an invitation from the Chinese Embassy for IGP Sellu to attend their upcoming National Day celebration scheduled for later this year.
