INTERPOL President Extols Sierra Leone Police on Cybercrime Response

Cape Town, South Africa, 28 August 2025 – The President of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), Major General Dr Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, has held a high-level meeting with Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr William Fayia Sellu, on the sidelines of the 27th INTERPOL African Regional Conference. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing capacity building in the fight against transnational organised crime in the sub region.

During the engagement, Major General Dr Al-Raisi praised IGP Sellu for his leadership in advancing INTERPOL’s work in Sierra Leone. “I am willing and ready to support you. It is not a favour – you have worked for it,” the INTERPOL President reaffirmed.

In his capacity as Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), IGP Sellu engaged with the INTERPOL President on a wide range of issues centred on fostering stronger collaboration to combat transnational organised crime and cybercrime. Both leaders underscored the importance of building more resilient systems to respond to the rapidly evolving nature of digital threats.

Major General Dr Al-Raisi reiterated his commitment to expanding training and capacity-building opportunities for the Sierra Leone Police, equipping officers with the skills and expertise needed to address emerging criminal challenges effectively. He expresse a hope for a Sierra Leone Police to have a senior police officer on secondment to ensure cultural diversity at the senior leadership level of interpol

IGP Sellu expressed his appreciation to the INTERPOL President, noting that the dynamic nature of crime demands continuous learning and adaptation. He stressed that international cooperation and training remain vital to maintaining an effective law enforcement response.

The engagement reflects a strengthening partnership between INTERPOL and the Sierra Leone Police, one that aims to reinforce security frameworks while supporting regional and global efforts to counter cybercrime.
